We look for things to continue to get better throughout the remainder of the season," he said. Cedar High School wrestling team participated in a varsity and junior varsity tournament host by Juab High School Friday. In both the varsity and junior varsity competition the Redmen picked up second place honors, according ac-cording to Coach Dave Jenson. However, in both divisions, the outstanding Wrestler Award went to a member of the Cedar High Redmen. In varsity competition Dave Lopour wrestling at 167 pounds was voted the Outstanding Wrestler Award and in the junior varsity division Shreve Damon won the Outstanding Wrestler Honors. Damon wresltes at 105. Dave Lopour picked up first place in his weight division with successive pins in his two matches. He opened with a pin over Rob Kelsey of Juab and won the title with a pin over Lovell Young of Union. Damon wrestled in only one match and scored a pin over Jason Parker of Juab for the title. In the varsity division Union captured the team honors with 155 v2 points. The - Redmen were in second place with 123 followed by Juab with 118 and Hurricane with 109'2 points. Host Juab won the junior varsity team title with 146 points, just one half point ahead of the Redmen at 145V2. In third place was Union with 94 followed by Hurricane with 77. Two other members of the CHS varsity squad won their respective weight title. Greg Robinson at 98 pounds captured first place honors with a 8-2 victory over Drew Kay of Juab. At 105 Clarence Gray also captured first place honors. He defeated John Johnson of Juab in the opening round and pinned Steve Frisco of Union for a first place finish. Finishing in second place was Gaylen Matheson at 112 pounds, and B ob Miller in the unlimited. Matheson opened wth a 7-1 victory over Ferrell McCook of Union but lost to Nathan Hammott of Juab 8-4 in the championship rond. Miller defeated Kelly McCoombs of Juab with a pin in the opening round and lost by a pin to Danny Farnsworth of Union in the final match. Picking up third place finishes were Brian Spencer at 132, Shannon Comp at 138, Dirk Lopour at 155 and Rock Lopour at 185. Kevin Soderquist, 119, Todd Nickerson 126 and Shane Baggs at 145 finished in fourth place in the varsity competition. Junior Varsity In addition to Damon three other members of the junior varsity won their weight classifications. Scott Bulloch finished first in the 155 pound division, Danny Bulloch captured the 185 title and Matt Bulloch captured the unlimited title. Scott opened with a win over Mark Greenwood of Juab 16-8 and won his weight with a 5-2 victory over Wade Kleinman of Hurricane. Danny defeated his first round opponent, Darin Lancaster of Hurricane by a pin and defeated Russ Day of Juab 9-2 for the first place finish. Matt won both of his matches by pins defeating Guy Ingrarn of Jifab and Troy Stewart of' Union, respectively. Capturing second place honors in the junior varsity division were Mike Kaufman at 98 pounds. Gary Chidester at 138, Emeron Tripp t 145 and Curt Hunt at 167. Gerald Poe finished fourth at 132 pounds. The Redmen were not represented in the 112 and 126 pound divisions. This Week This week the Redmen will be back in the thick of the Region Six wars as they take on Spanish Fork Dons in a dual match this evening, Thursday. "They have some good wrestlers," commented |
