Show State Press j Historic Rock Church in Parowan symbolic of pioneer heritage will be a center of Friday's Statehood Day activities which are being held in Parowan. Various activities, speakers and a dinner are scheduled for the event. Parowan sets Statehood Day Schedule of Events Statehood Day, Parowan Friday, January 4 1 :30-2 p.m.-Orientation at the Parowan Public Library 2-5 p.m.-Demonstrations and Tours-Each tour will last approximately ap-proximately 50 minutes and will include a slide show, a visit to some of Parowan's pioneer homes and a tour of the Old Rock Church Museum; demonstrations of pioneer arts and a tour of the Jesse N. Smith home. 6:30-7:30 p.m.-No Host Pioneer Dinner at the Parowan High School sponsored by the PTA-must have reservations to attend. g p.m.Official Statehood Day Program at Parowan High School Auditorium-Introduction by Dr.r Milton C. Abrams, President of Utah Historical SocietyjWelcome by Parowan Mayor James C. Robinson; Remarks by Utah Governor Scott Matheson; Statehood Day Address by Dr. Richard Jackson of Brigham Young University. A musical selection will follow the speakers provided by the Southern Utah State College Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Prof. David Nyman. PAROWAN - Friday, January 4, Utah Statehood day will be celebrated with Parowan as the host city. Governor Scott Matheson will be a special guest for the occasion and several bus loads of people from northern Utah will come to join the people of southern Utah for a tour of the Old Rock Church museum and pioneer homes in the area. The official statehood day program will be held in the Parowan High School auditorium at 8 p.m. Milton C. Abrams president of the Utah State History board will conduct the program. Remarks wiirbe given by Mayor Jim Robinson. Governor Scott Matheson and the Statehood address ! by Richard Jackson associate professor of geography at BYU. Music for the program will be provided by the Utah State Symphony Orchestra under the direction of C. David Nyman. Mrs. Jackie Robinson is local chairman for this special event and she wishes to extend a special invitation to all southern Utah residents to participate in the celebration. Activities will begin at 1:30 in the Parowan Library lounge. Three demonstration tours will be held each lasting about 50 minutes and will include a slide show of area attractions at-tractions and pioneer homes in this area and weather permitting a visit to some of the pioneer homes in Parowan, the Old Rock Church, tour of the Jesse N. Smith home and demonstrations of pioneer arts. |
