Main Beaver, Utah 84713 JOE WHITE, Agent ROBERT LEE, Agent 438-2996 438-2996 riiUjl tiohitn Qj-ii- HtMw It started out a typical board meeting for the Parowan Chamber of Commerce. The usual yet Interesting and stimulating topics of discussion were monopolizing our gray matter causing the floor to feel an anxious moment or two. Then up i came the topic we were waiting for. That of the annual Santa Clause program. You know the one; we all meet to see a kiddie mowie and the ho, ho man drops , in for a visit leaving with every girl and boy, good or not so good, a bag of candy nuts and fruit. We all had enjoyed this event each year but felt that something was lacking. j Our good Doc Walbon suggested that we do something to augment the standard in f the form of a house where children could come to shop with their small purses 1 of nickles and dimes. Something just for them. I "Wow!" "Why didn't we think of that sooner" and "that's wonderful" were J some of the replys. With that suggestion the room was filled with such elec- I trlclty and the eyes were lighting up like Christmas trees. One could almost hear the cogs turning, sounding like that of "bells". After a moment, the suggestions sug-gestions started flying one after the other until it was evident we needed to start eliminating ideas. Why couldn't we have an entire weekend filled with activity and fun for the entire family. I Yes, yes. It was agreed. Just before Christmas to stimulate the soul a little more, to offer everyone a day or two-of "family" togetherness, to offer every civic organizations, club, school, class, church, business and individual the opportunity op-portunity to become lightly Involved or to become strongly active. To experience friendly competition and have a chance to prove ourself. To stimulate our talents. To encourage our citizens of Parowan, as well as those traveling through and those who may want to get in on such fun to shop at home. After all, we want to plan something that keeps the local dollar here. We then decided that we need a common purpose to work toward. We needed a purpose to work toward. We needed a cause, financially. Thus, monies earned are pledged to Parowan Elem. PT.A. for use on the playground equipment fund. With that decision, we all felt the spirit , of Jolly Old St. Nick pouring forth and could hardly await the big event. With the next week's meeting, we weeded out the least likely to achieve notions and motions and began to work on those we felt would be a success.Committees " were ofganlfceQJ detail lists' were checked and rechecked. Phone calls were made, f laws were searched. Community presentations were made at two public meetings. j i The ball was indeed rolling and enthusiasm generally good. f What can I do, how can I rent a booth, this is a wonderful idea were some of ) the welcomed statements coming forth. We were so encouraged. With that we I f extend to each of you, everywhere, a hearty invitation to come to the "First Annual 1 1 Winter Carnival" presented by the Parowan Chamber of Commerce.
