Beaver travels to Parowan F riday and entertains Enterprise Enter-prise here on Saturday. by Mel Osborn The Gunnison Bulldogs arrived ar-rived last Friday in Beaver Country with an impressive , 7 -0 record and the nod from the sports writers to make the record 8-0, but the Beavers Beav-ers were determined to change that statistic, and that they did and with an impressive impres-sive 58-51 victory. Actually, most fans and certainly the team could smell the victory in sight, with the results winding up with a two point magin for the Bulldogs on their own floor three weeks ago and a slim defeat of Enterprise last week. The action was fast and furious and both defenses were very stingy, especially especial-ly the first half. Gunnison had the edge, 15-14, after the first eight minutes, and the 2nd quarter saw the lead exchange several times with intermission leaving a 26-26 26-26 deadlock. Beaver was up by three, with 24 seconds remaining and gambled with a quick open shot from the top of the key. On the missed shot Gunnison capitalized and picked up a three -point play to tie up the game. Beaver controlled the tip to begin the 3rd quarter and quickly scored on Steve Lowe's jumper and Beaver added four more and increased increas-ed the lead, 32-26. But Gunnison, Gun-nison, taking advantage of a Beaver cold spell, added seven of their own and lead 33-32 with three minutes remaining in the 3rd period. per-iod. It was tight for the remainder re-mainder of the quarter and Beaver squeaked out a 38-37 38-37 lead to start the final quarter. Both teams exchanged baskets until 4:57 of the final quarter and the Beaver offense of-fense came alive with Lowe, Marshall, Crook, Gillins, and White tanking goals. Suddenly, Sud-denly, Beaver was on top by ten, which was too much for the Bulldogs to make up. Beaver's widest margin was eleven and they lead by nine with 40 seconds showing on the clock. A steal by Gunnison Gunni-son and an addition from the charity stripe cut the lead to seven, but it was all over but the shouting as the Beavers Beav-ers triumphantly congratulated congratu-lated each other.
