Firmage moved that the board grant Alder Construction Co. an extension exten-sion of 30 days on the installation in-stallation of the heating system, sy-stem, but that the other parts of the project should be completed com-pleted on schedule. The motion was seconded by James A. Mayer. A vote was called by the Board President, with Firmage voting for, and Sullivan a-gainst. a-gainst. The motion was declared passed. Supt. Haslem reported that on April 29th and 30th he Commission for a Frequency Modulated Radio Station for Beaver High. He said that the school will be eligible to go on the air with FM. An engineer from the College Col-lege of Southern Utah will be guiding engineer required requir-ed by the FCC. He presented a list of equipment needed for the station that amounted to $5808.5. He reported that he had 8 regular students this year and 25 had signed sign-ed up for the mini course program. The station will have a radius of 15 miles. The board suggested that the school and community come up with about $2000 and the board will finance the balance. The Board President then appointed James A. Mayer to be a member of the Teach - Supt. Haslem reported that the State Board of Education -has approved $21,750 for the reading program he proposed pro-posed which would permit a reading program on a continuing con-tinuing basis clear through high school if needed by students. He said the money must be spent this school year (1974-75) and reported the required materials will be purchased for the program. pro-gram. Principal Jesse E. Long, of the Milford High School, met with the board and presented pre-sented a proposed class schedule for the 1974-75 school year. He reported that the school needs more flexibility flexi-bility in scheduling and this schedule gives more alternatives alter-natives for classes than past schedules. He noted that the students in the 11th and 12th grades have a choice Assn. officers be authorized authoriz-ed to take the school cars, when they are not going to be used by the school staff, to attend the Utah Education Educa-tion Association meetings and pay only the costs of gas. Miss Celeste Denton, a teacher at Beaver High, met with the board and explained the IDI Library Proposal. She said that a workshop had been scheduled for teachers to learn to use the media equipment and the library materials. Next year these teachers will teach the 7th ' and 8th grades mini courses on how to use the library successfully. would like to send one board member, the Superintendent and a Principal to a conference con-ference on the "dropout". Superintendent Haslem reported that the Beaver Golf Course had informed him that it would charge $100 per school to allow the classes class-es to use the green. Superintendent Haslem informed in-formed the board that Region Re-gion 8 of the Utah High School Activities Assn. had recommended that the board participate on a fee basis for the science fair in the future, however, for this year it recommended that a donation of $50.00 be made by the school districts to defer de-fer costs of Southern Utah State College, which the board agreed to do. He reported that twenty -three students were taken to the fair. They took 13 projects and won 9 awards. Mr. Burnus Watts and Mr. . Roy Stout, of the Data Processing Pro-cessing Division of the State Board of Education, met with the board and presented the proposals for services that their division renders school districts, along with costs of the service. Mr. Dean Brown, President Presi-dent of the Beaver Education Educa-tion Association, met with the board. He requested that the Beaver Education costing $400 for both schools, provided that Milford Mil-ford Principal and Coach wants the change. Dr. Wayne R. Crook met with the board to report on the Juvenile Court Conference he attended. He also presented a proposed pro-posed school calendar for 1974-75 for the board to review. The board made proposed changes for the teachers to consider and return re-turn to the board with recommendations. re-commendations. Farrer, Beaver High School Vocational teacher, reported on the activities on the Integrated Integrat-ed Shop Program at the high school. He explained that pupils can cover an entire survey field of building build-ing construction, metal work, power mechanics and drafting in the first two years at the school. In the 11th and 12th grades, two hour blocks of time are scheduled sched-uled for the students to work on the program they are most interested in. MR. Farrer said that supplies sup-plies and equipment have really been adequate but the building area is small and the program needs more space. Wallace R.
