Show TIGERS TAKE DOUBLEHEADER FROM MILLARD Coming off of a winless 1973 season, Coach Bob Andrus' nine showed the promise pro-mise of four years of baseball base-ball at Milford High School last Friday afternoon by defeating de-feating the Class 2 -A Millard's Mil-lard's nine, 7-6 and 7-1 in the opening double header. Richard Smith came on strong in the first game, pitching three scoreless innings inn-ings before giving up two runs in the fourth. The Tigers came back with two to tie the score but Millard hit Smith for four runs in the top of the fifth and the Tigers picked up one in the bottom of the inning to make it 6-3. Freshman Randy Kerr came on In the sixth and shut out Millard on five pitches and didn't give any runs in the seventh. Milford picked pick-ed up two more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh for the win. In the second game of the double header, Kevin Barnes gave up only one run in the third inning as the Tigers teed off with three runs in the first, one in the third and three more in the fourth, to win 7-1. Russell Smith took the mound in the last inning, for experience, as Barnes was in no trouble. After shaking most of their first game jitters, the Tigers settled down to some good ball and looked like they could hold their own in league play. This week they traveled to Delta with the Smith brothers scheduled for starting roles. Richard in the first game and Russell Rus-sell in the second. On Friday, Fri-day, April 19th they play at Beaver. |
