He presented pre-sented letters from Beaver After going over the proposed pro-posed changes in specifications specifica-tions worked out between the architect and the low bidder on the new courthouse, court-house, the Beaver County Commission on a motion by Jefferson, unanimously accepted the bid of Prest-vich Prest-vich and Healey to begin construction. The bid of $530,366 (including (in-cluding the achitects fee) was reduced $43,675 by pruning unnecessary frills, or items that may optionally be added at a later date, and cutting all the fat from the bid. - Tom Zabriskie, representing repre-senting the architects, noted that structurely the design had not been changed. He said, that he and the contractor con-tractor had went over the design specification by-specification by-specification to arrive at the new bid. He said that one subcontractor was still to be contacted, which could resolve in another saving of possibly two or three thousand thous-and dollars. After making certain that the proposed changes would not significantly effect the end result, the Commissioners Commission-ers called County Treasurer Trea-surer Rondo Farrer into the conference to help work out the financing to be sure they had sufficient monies to pay for construction without with-out levying more taxes. Conrad Grimshaw met with the Board to report on the progress of the Beaver Beav-er County Fire Study Group. He said that estimates were that it would take approxi- City and Milford asking that the Commissioners put on a 2 -mill levy to finance the equipment needed. He said that the group had determined that the county should limit its participation par-ticipation to equipment. They felt that the water supply and operation of each fire dept. should be the responsibility re-sponsibility of the cities and districts. Grimshaw said that he felt it was possible to reduce at least one insurance rating rat-ing in each district, if the districts would make the effort necessary to do so. This would result in an insurance in-surance saving to each property pro-perty owner of considerably more than the proposed 2-mill 2-mill levy. Besides the equipment which would be purchased with the levy, it was pointed point-ed out that each community communi-ty needed to improve their water supply. Milford would need to add more adult personnel, per-sonnel, and it would be necessary to work out agreements between the cities cit-ies and county, and neighboring neigh-boring cities and districts to cooperate with each other, including making all equipment equip-ment available for fighting each fire. |
