Show 9 2UHHO, Hut 9 JteaA Wonder if E. L. Smith could be classed as a ' tough guy?" We'll know before the next month has passed. The City Dads have appointed E. L. to the post of justice of the peace during the absence of O. C. Koch, and traffic violators will be wondering how' "tough" E. L. is going to be. Peace of mind is better than a bank account, but one helps the other. Looks like the Red Cross Bloodmobile program is going to have to find some way of giving itself a shot in the arm if. they expect to continue poking pok-ing hollow needles in the arms of donors. Last week Milford produced 58 of quota, and on the traveling trav-eling unit's first trip to Minersville Miners-ville they obtained 29 pints, about 35 of their 75-pint quota. y.&Ei The blood donor program is as important now as during time of war or national emergency, emer-gency, and should be supported 'just as religiously. President Ike disappointed The American Legion and Veterans Vet-erans generally when he vetoed a bill which would have continued contin-ued direct home loans to veterans veter-ans in rural areas. His excuse for the veto was " the bill would have an "inflationary "infla-tionary effect on the economy" and is discriminatory because it doesn't affect all veterans. Veterans in the cities don't need direct loans because housing hous-ing money is available for them at low interest rates, but banks and other lending agencies in ' rural areas just don't have the money to loan at low rates, and veterans can't take advantage of loan provisions of the G I Bill. And darned if we can see how helping a veteran buy a home can be called "inflationary." Suzy Says: An old-timer is a fellow who remembers when a man did his own withholding on his lake-home pay, |
