Officers of the Hawaiian Relief societ' were present and addressed Minister Young and Minister Daymon on behalf of the petitioners. "Following the conference. Minister Young- replied that the bands of the government were tied for the reason that the appropriation was exhausted and it was not possible to have legislation legisla-tion on the subject at present. Not a cent for relief could be given. The government had exhausted its appropriation appro-priation in caring for the large number num-ber of people in the camps after their periods of quarantine were over and could not carry on the work any longer. "Minister Young advised the Ha-waaian Ha-waaian Belief society to spend its balance bal-ance of S7,000 for the emergency." |
