Show I Dixie College News Paul Neilson, Rulon Iverson and Rodney Neilson were visitors at the Dixie college campus Monday. They all completed defense courses here and are now employed on the Coast. D. J. C. The painting, "Strays", by Paul Salisbury, a young Provo artist, has been added to the permanent art collection at the college. D. J. C. Mathew M. Bentley attended a meeting of junior college treasurers treas-urers at Salt Lake City last Friday. Fri-day. D. J. C. Ward Stratton has recently completed the defense course in sheet metal work at the Dixie college. D. J. C. The college defense classes in first aid, physical fitness and civic information will be completed next Monday. About half the students have completed work in fire safety. safe-ty. Social Hygiene week commemoration commem-oration was completed Sunday with a large number of students giving talks in the various ecclesiastical eccle-siastical wards. At the same programs pro-grams numbers were provided by the music department. D. J. C. The spring quarter at the college col-lege will start on March 2, instead in-stead of March 9. This change is due to make-up of winter quarter quar-ter classes during the Christmas holidays. D. J. C. The Hurricane high school will provide the program for Friday's assembly at the college. Next week the B. A. C. will be here. Dixie provided the program at Cedar last Friday and is arranging arrang-ing a visit at Hurricane for the near future. D. J. C. Supt. David Gourley of the: state school office was a Dixie visitor this week. , D.J.C. A course in calculus will be started soon under the direction of Ellis E. Everett. Anyone interested inter-ested should contact Mr. Everett. D. J. C. Shorthand Tests ' Recent accomplishments of the college shorthand students have been summarized by Edward Christensen, who is in charge of the work. Thelma Blake passed the 120-word test with an accuracy accur-acy of 98.5 per cent. Delsey Woodbury, Gilbert Tobler, Cher-ril Cher-ril Snow and Andrew Barnum have completed the 100-word test, with Helen Pectol, Jane Pace, Ferol Paxman and Norma Koch completing the 80-word material Eighty words a minute is sufficient suffi-cient to get junior civil service rating. D. J.C. Preliminary program for the celebration of Dixie Day on March 27 has been set up, according to , Bill Swapp, studentbody president. The procedure of the past will be followed, with a clean-up early in the morning, a parade at 9:30, the Founders' program at 10.30, and a dance in the evening. D. J. C. Plant Specimens Arrive Dr. Frank Gould is in receipt of another shipment of dried plant specimens for the herbarium of the Dixie college. They were received re-ceived on a personal exchange with the National Herbarium of the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. The grasses are- being utilized for a special research problem. They come from Arizona, Utah, California and Mexico. |
