Show Spring Wheat Growers Warned To Insure Wheat At Once By U. S. Spring wheat growers were warned warn-ed today that they have only until February 28lh in which to insure their 1942 wheat crop. Wilford A. Schmutz, chairman of the Washington Wash-ington county AAA committee, said that already 89 farmers have insured their crop for this year. Any farmer who has not already al-ready insured his wheat crop for 1942 and who seeds only spring wheat may guarantee himself 75 per cent of a normal crop by insuring in-suring his yield with the Federal Crop Insurance corporation. This cooperative insurance plan is administered ad-ministered by' the county AAA committee and applications for insurance in-surance may be obtained at the county AAA office. This year a farmer may have the payment of premiums deferred. defer-red. He may pay his premiums as he is able or he may have the premiums deducted from AAA payments to be earned under the farm program. Under the 1941 crop insurance program the cash equivalent of G5 bushels of wheat from Washington Wash-ington county was paid in as premiums. To pay crop losses on the 1941 crop the cash equivalent equiva-lent of 109 bushels of wheat was returned to the county. The main causes of crop losses in 1941 were rust and smut. |
