Show St. George Lions Now Busy Revamping Road Onto Sugar Loaf for Convention Visitors The Lions are busy again improving improv-ing the highway onto the Sugar Loaf with plans, now the weather had moderated, to complete this stretch o f St. George's own scenic highway in a big way. Supervising Su-pervising the improvements is Lee Owens, with a group of men headed head-ed by Irvin Milne and including Irvin Bryner, Neil Lundberg and Rodney Ashby, directing the workers. work-ers. On Sunday the men put in a good shift and were at work again on Wednesday evening. And while the Lions are sponsoring the project proj-ect they are not refusing assistance assist-ance from any other civic-minded citizens who care to lend a hand. The plan includes the widening of the west approach from the head of Main street, taking out a sharp turn, and overcoming the mud seeps that keep making trouble. The roadway is to be widened and improved across the entire hill, and the bad stretch on the east end of the course is to be graveled. This will also ma-1 terially improve the approach to the Explorer's cave and will make possible an interesting drive for whatever tourists do visit St. George this summer, and hope is held, there will be many, to see the surrounding country from this vantage point. . With the Lions state convention conven-tion scheduled to be held in St. George in May, this highway improvement im-provement will be an added factor fac-tor of interest in providing entertainment. enter-tainment. The work is getting off to a good start and plans are made to push along as rapidly as possible. With the cooperation of the two local show houses, the funds needed for purchase of explosives and gasoline will be raised with the sale of tickets by the Lions for a per cent of the proceeds. The first of these shows is scheduled sched-uled for Feb. 18th, at the Wads-worth Wads-worth and the Lions will be glad to sell tickets to everyone. The Gaiety feature will come a week or so later. |
