Show Cedar Plays Here; College Goes To Mesa-Carbon Dixie Flyers In Third Place, But Dixie College Still Leads One game at home and two away is the schedule for the basketball teams this week end. The Cedar City high comes here Saturday seeking revenge for their initial defeat of the season by the Flyers, Fly-ers, while the college squad travels to Grand Junction, Colo., for a game with Mesa Friday evening, eve-ning, and then on to Price to tangle with Carbon on Saturday. Drop To Third Place The Flyers dropped to third place in the high school league standings as a result of their loss to Enterprise last Saturday night. They are just one-half game behind Cedar City, which team is in turn a game and a half behind Hurricane. While the championship hopes of the locals were given a severe jolt last week, a win over Cedar would put the boys in a favorable frame of mind to climb closer to Hurricane Hurri-cane when the Typhoons come here on February 20. At any rate a good game is assured the fans here Saturday. The college team holds the leadership of the junior college conference by one game as it takes to the road. The boys should get at least a split, and if they play heir best ball they should come home with a twin victory. Their status in the standings will depend somewhat on the B.A.C., for the Aggies also play Carbon and Mesa this week end. The Flyers took it on the chm twice at Cedar City last week, the league game Friday going to the Aggies 55-35, and the battle for tha "av" 97-94 The Dixie team did not play up to par in the first game, while the Aggies put on an excellent exhibition; The game Saturday was a rough and tumble affair, with the lead changing hands many times. Showed Good Form Coach Hafen's charges showed excellent form against Parowan on Thursday evening, trimming Enterprise's conquerors of the previous week 33-15. But Coach Snyder's boys from Enterprise again played championship ball to down the locals 32-20 Saturday night. In other games this week, : Kanab takes on a breather at Valley Friday; Parowan moves to Cedar the same night, while En terprise moves to Hurricane. In the college conference Weber plays at Snow Friday, and West-minstr West-minstr moves to Weber Saturday. Last Friday Weber edged out Snow at Ogden 48-41, while Carbon Car-bon drove the hapless Westminster Parsons deeper into the cellar by a 51-41 score. On Saturday Snow trimmed the Parsons again 60-37, while Weber got revenge over Carbon 61-46. Kanab upset Cedar at Kanab last Friday 38-33, while Hurricane romped over Valley 42-18. |
