Staheli Enterprise. Pa Ba Many Boys Discharged According to reports from separation sep-aration centers, many servicemen are being discharged in time to reach home for holidays. Melvin D. Terry who has had more than two years in the US navy with the submarine service was released Dec. 20 at Shoemaker. Shoe-maker. He and Mrs. Terry, the former Melba LeVanger, arrived for Christmas. Sgt. Vernon A. Leavitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Leavitt Sr. of Gunlock has served 19 months in the Aleutian and Philippine Islands with the 679th Med. unit has his A-PTO, American Victory and Philippine Liberation ribbons with the Good Conduct Medal and four Bronze stars. T5 Ray S. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren E. Johnson of Short Creek has spent the past 21 months in the Aleutians and the Philippines and is happy to return to his farming at Short Creek. . isa Kay Made It For the first time in four years Kay Wilkiuson is home for Christmas,, Christ-mas,, and it will be a real event to share with his wife, the former Lael Woodbury, and their small son, who is all excitement about Santa. Last week the situation looked hopeless, but he made it, arriving late Sunday night. is Pa Rex Peterson Discharged Rex Peterson arrived last week with his honorable discharge after 20 months service with the armed forces in the Aleutians and five months in India. He is a son of Mr. an dMrs. C. M. Peterson of Littlefield, Arizona. nun Home For Christmas Like Santa Claus, Pfc. Melvin T (Truman) Bowler, must return re-turn to his post of operations the day after Christmas, and that means, the Army air base at Rapid City, South Dakota, but he says it has been great to have even a ten day furlough, especially at Christmas. His parents are Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Bowler, Gun-lock, Gun-lock, and this wife is the former Laura Lytle of St. George. Riley Returns Pfc. Riley Matthews has the Bronze Star for his participation in the campaigns of the Asiatic-Pacific Asiatic-Pacific theater, serving 18 months in India with the 1602nd Ordinance Ordin-ance Division. His father, Daniel HMatthews lives in Virgin. His wife is the former Kathryn Stubble-field of Dalhart, Texas. Pa a n Cooper On Furlough Sgt. Grant Cooper, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Cooper, formerly form-erly of Washington and now of Lynndyl, is home on a 30 day furlough after 15 months in the Pacific. He served with a Marine transport squadron on the Marshall Marsh-all Islands, Saipan, and Iwo Jima, moving wounded soldiers. Lateer he was attached to the Marine Fighting Sqdn. 222 at Okinawa, the squadron accounting for more than 50 Jap planes. He wears the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon rib-bon with the Presidential Citation Cita-tion and Victory Medal. He lists as his greatest excitement the day he caught sight of the US mainland main-land on his return to the USA. Pa Pa Pa In Idaho Now Sgt. John T. Wode is back in Idaho Falls with Mrs. Wade, the former Lucile Shaw, after 30 montehs in the Southwest Pacific with the 767th Tank Co. His parents par-ents are Mr. and Mrs. Israel Wade of St. George, and he was employed by the Idaho Falls Creamery before entering the service. He has the A-PTO, American, Amer-ican, Victory ribbons with three battle stars and Philippine Liberation Lib-eration ribbon with two stars. Pa Pa ' P 1' Affair Jones Before entering tehe US army June 5, T5 Victor W. Jones was employed at ZCMI in Salt Lake City. He is now' home with his honorable discharge after nine months overseas. He wears the ETO ribbon and American Theater Theat-er ribbons with the Good Conduct andand Victory medals and the Distinguished Unit Badge. Mrs. Jones is the former LaWana Hyatt of St. George. They have one daughter. pa pa pa Staheli Back With Medals Wm. R. Staheli, son of Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy Staheli of Enterprise served 31 months in Africa and France with the 623rd Ordinance Division. He has one battle star and the Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medals with his ETO and American Theatre ribbons. Pa Pa P . Aboard The Thetis Bay Louis M. Miclelson SlC is re- turning from the Pacific aboard the USS Thetis Bay, according to an advance report from Pearl Harbor. He has had long overseas over-seas service and is one of 1300 high point men returning for honorable discharge. Pa He Wants 'In' Again Before Pfc. Jeter E. Lang gets through with military service he will have seen the greater part of the world, since he will join the occupation forces in Japan at the conclusion of his 90 day furlough. fur-lough. Pfc. Lang returned from extended ex-tended service in Europe and has three bronze stars for the campaigns cam-paigns of Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe in which he participated. He found no place in Europe and knows nothing in the Pacific will look as good to him as the USA. His brother Pfc. Eldon Lang recently transferred to the air transport command at Fort Dix, New Jersey, having previously been located at Baltimore, Md. ' Pa Pa P What A Christmas Home for his first Christmas with his little daughter, Lt. John R. (Richard) Sullivan figures this will be a real event. Not having seen the daughter for more than two years she almost has him baffled with her conversation. He just returned from more than two years in Europe. During his absence ab-sence Mrs. Sullivan and daughter have been living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Foremaster. McAllisters Learn Of Granddaughter's Engagement Mr. and Mrs. J. W. McAllister received word over the week end of the engagement of their granddaughter, grand-daughter, Miss Kate Bracken, to Wm. H. Gramlick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. H. Gramlick Sr. of Los Angeles. Date for the marriage mar-riage has not been set. The bride-elect is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Bracken formerly of St. George and now of Los Angeles and was a student of Dixie junior college in 1944-45. Mr. Gramlick returned recently from serving with the US army in Africa and Italy. |
