The following statement of the (Continued on page eight) City Officers Change (Continued from first Dase i past two years administration was released to the News office by Councilman Miles: I Since the city administration is changing on January 1st. the following fol-lowing summary of the accomplishments accom-plishments of the city officers during the past six years is submitted sub-mitted as a tribute to Mayor Utility Commission which is cf-ity cf-ity interests with the result that we now have both water and electrical systems operating on a financially sound business basis. Second, the past six years have brought extensive developments and improvements at the sources of the city's culinary water supply. sup-ply. The use of our culinary water to generate approximately half of the power consumed in the city, has made it financially feasible to purchase and develop new sources of culinary water without borrowing money. Third, the Watson administration administra-tion has brought the entire development de-velopment of the City Park with the construction and operation of an outstanding swimming pool. In addition the city has undertaken under-taken to purchase all of the ground in the vicinity of the "Sugar Loaf", the "Scout's cave", "Ensign Peak", and East to Highway High-way 91 to set aside as a park and recreation area. Also, the city is now considering an agreement agree-ment with the local Lions Club for the development of the north portion of the City Park. Fourth, the past six years have brought the establishment of the Municipal Airport including the construction of the present buildings build-ings the surfacing of the runways, and the installation of a CAA Watson and to the several city officials who have served with him. First, during this administration administra-tion the city established Municipal Munici-pal Power and Light, constructed efficient generating plants and built an entirely new distribution system which took the poles off the city streets. With municipal power came establishment of the Weather and Communication Station Sta-tion on . the airport. In addition, the city has sponsored, with the aid of the county, the construction of a major airport which is to be located 7 miles southeast of the city and one mile South of the Evan Woodbury farm. The city has provided the necessary land, the county will construct the required re-quired roads, and the CAA will construct and maintain a major intermediate field at this location. Incidentally, this project will take municipal power and culinary water through the intervening farm areas to serve the airport. Fifth, The .. past six years here involved numerous smaller projects pro-jects that have! served to improve our city. Some of these are: the oiling and graveling of many streets,' construction, of new roads and streets, building of new sidewalk, side-walk, new curbs and gutters, purchase pur-chase of a new bulldozer, etc. Mayor Watson and his .associates .associ-ates may well be proud of the service they have rendered to the people of St. George. Those who are left to "carry on" will regard the record of the retiring administration admin-istration as a standard of achievement. |
