I listing in Sept. 1912 he trained in San Francisco, Chicago, Logan, and Corpus Christi, Texas, and I was assigned to a naval air' station in Kodiak, Alaska. In! 1913 he returned to the US and; attended the midshipman school at Notre Dame, receiving his j commission May 31, 1944 in the USS APA99. After Okinawa amphibious warfare, serving on his last few months in the service were with the occupation forces in Japan, and assisting with carrying the 52nd Chinese army from French Indo China to Manchuria. Man-churia. His wife is the former Merlene Stevens Ballard. Home for the Christmas holidays, holi-days, James Allen Ballard RDM 2C will return shortly to his ship, the USS Point Cruz CVE119, a new ship to which he was assigned recently. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Ballard and participated in the Invasion of Palau Islands, Leyte Gulf, second battle of the Philippines, and invasions in-vasions of Luzon and Okinawa. For 17 months he served aboard the USS Petrof Bey. He expects his discharge in May, 1946, but is happy to be home for Xmas. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Canfield of Tremonton visited last week with Mrs. Annie Wright, mother of Mrs. Canfield and other relatives. Mrs- Wright returned with them to spend two weeks. Miss Lucille Spendlove, who is a telephone operator at McGill, Nev. is guest this week of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Spendlove and family. She is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Spendlove. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Fuller of Garfield, Utah visited over the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Al-vin Al-vin Larson enroute from a business busi-ness trip to Glendale, Calif. Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Larson are sisters. Mrs. Thomas Eagar has returned return-ed from ElPaso, Texas, where she accompanied her daughter, Mrs. Rex Dutton and son, Dannie to join Pvt. Dutton who is stationed sta-tioned there. Mrs. Almeda ' Bliss Weber is home from Salt Lake City to spend the holidays with her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Bliss. Students home for the Christmas Christ-mas vacation are Verdell Hinton, Von Pulsipher, Charline Tweedie, Julia Whitney, Ruth Spendlove. Miss Opal Isom is home from Boulder City where she has employment em-ployment as school teacher. Eleanor and Norma Cope, daughters of Mrs. John Humphries Hump-hries are home for the Christmas holidays. Norma has employment at the LDS church offices in Salt Lake City. Guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alma Wright are their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Walters. Mrs. Robert Langston is home from her employment in Salt Lake City for the holidays. Her husband is with the army occupation occupa-tion in Hamburg, Germany. Miss Barbara Tweedie is home from employment in Washington, D. C. After the holidays she will leave for Salt Lake City where she has work. Cpl. and Mrs. Elwood Reber are guests this week of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Reber. Coming from Kennywick, Wash., Mrs. Reber wall accompany her husband back to Camp Hood, Texas, where he is stationed. ' Mr. and Mrs. Forest Hunter are guests this week of her parents, par-ents, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Engle-stead. Engle-stead. She is the former Alice Englestead. Mr. Hunter was- re cently discharged. T5 Theron Leany, son of Wil-ford Wil-ford Leany, has his honorable discharge dis-charge and is home after 18 months overseas. He has 4 battle stars, having landed on the Utah Beach at Normandy, crossing France, and was in Southern Germany when V-E Day was de-clared.l de-clared.l S2C Waldo Hirschi surprised Mrs. Hirschi and his parents Saturday Sat-urday morning, arriving on a 2-day 2-day leave from San Diego where he is employed at a repair base. Sgt. DeLance Squire arrived from McCook, Neb. to spend Christmas with Mrs. Squire and their baby and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Loren D. Squire of La-Verkin. La-Verkin. He reports back to Fort Worth, Tex. where Mrs. Squire and baby will join him later. Hurricane N.orth ward pribary presented a Christmas pageant Sunday evening with all members mem-bers participating in living pictures pic-tures of the historic scenes of the birth of Christ and singing Christ- , mas carols. Monday evening primary groups of both the north and south wards had a Christmas dar.ee. The hall , was decorated and Santn visited during the afternoon with gifts ' for each child. Organized groups : of singers received the hearty ,1 appreciation of the citizens for ; their caroling programs Sunday ' and Monday evenings. !
