Show Dramatic Students To Present Two Plays At Speech Festival Here As part of the Speech Festival to be held at the Dixie college March 13th the" dramatic students at the college will present two one-act plays. The plays will be presented at 2 p. m., Friday and the public is invited. A third play will be presented sometime in the near future in an assembly program at the college. One of the first two will be Dixie's official of-ficial entry. Two of the plays are under the supervision of the play production class at the college. The third is directed by Miss Myrtle Henderson, Hender-son, the cast members having been selected by competition. "The Boar," by Anton Tchekov, is the first of the play production presentations. It is a Russian comedy with Alene Allen as Helena Hel-ena Ivanova Popov, Truman Bowler Bowl-er as Gugori Stepanovitch Snu-nor, Snu-nor, and Vauna Mae Leany as Tuka. "The Gazing Globe," the second play by this group, is by Eugene Pillot, and is a story of the South Sea Islands. Vauna Mae Leany depicts Zama; Harriet Anderson is Oleana; and Grant Cottam takes the part of Nijo. "The American Tragedy," will be directed by Miss Henderson. It is written by Arthur S. Nem-endorff Nem-endorff and depicts the problems involved in the attempted mixing of heterogeneous social ggroups. The characters in this play are: Wayne Prince, Mr. Cecil; Grant Cottam, Uncle Jed; Orlo Hall, Mel Woods; Gwen Sylvester, Mrs. Taller; and Dorothy Hirschi, as Sarah.. The public is cordially invited to attend this play presentation. One of the three plays will be selected se-lected as Dixie's official presentation presenta-tion for the drama festival on March 13th. Several schools will participate in the festival, which will include, besides the presentation of plays, work in public speaking and in dramatic and humorous readings. The detailed program of the festival will be printed next week. The public is invited to attend the various sessions, which will begin be-gin early in the morning and continue con-tinue throughout the day. |
