The spontaneous applause that greeted the performers was an indication in-dication that the numbers were received heartily by all who attended. at-tended. The program contained variety and showed careful preparation prep-aration and direction. An outstanding feature of the concert was the finale, with a Flag ceremony conducted by the American Legion accompanying the rendition of, "The Star-Spangled Star-Spangled Banner". The lights were focused on Guy Hafen as Flag bearer and his escort, representing represent-ing the various branches of the military service. The escort included in-cluded Kenneth Cannon, Gordon Mathis, Dwayne Bryner and Miss Beryl Napier. The final group on the program was patriotic, and was introduced by the "American Creed", read by Grant Cottam. Another outstanding group was the music of Wagner, including the "Nibelungen March", and a selection se-lection of Wagner melodies. Individual performers who did creditable work included Wayne Prince, Garth Tietjen, Bob Ins-score, Ins-score, John Miller and Bill Swapp. The concert was directed by Earl J. Bleak, who was assisted by Norman J. Hunt. Wayne Prince was the business manager. In the opinion of the those who are acquainted with the wjrk of the organization, the Dixie college band has been, and is, one of St. George's greatest assets. Mr. Bleak deserves a great deal of credit in keeping such an organization organ-ization intact year after year. |
