Show Dixie To Try for Place In Post-League Tournament At Ogden With the junior college conference championship practically conceded to Mesa, the Dixie Flyers will play Westminster and Weber Friday Fri-day and Saturday nights, respectively, res-pectively, hoping to win a place in the post-league tourney to be held in Ogden following the regular regu-lar league play. Dixie's loss to Snow at Eph-raim Eph-raim last Friday night 53-51 placed the locals in a tie for second place with B. A. C. and' Weber, a full game behind the Mesa Mavericks. The Mavericks haye now only to trim Carbon at Grand Junction to cinch the top -honors. Dixie played one of its best games of the seasson, but Snow played better to win out by two points. The Ephraim team led most of the way, with the Flyers working hard to overcome the handicap. In the last quarter Coach Watts' boys rallied, but could not quite make the grade. Saturday night the B. A. C. five downed Snow 58-47, while Westminster West-minster bowed to Carbon at Carbon Friday night 37-30 and to Mesa at Grand Junction the following fol-lowing night 62-34. If the Flyers can down either Wober or Westminster this week end. they will be assured a place in the post-season tourney, which will include the top four teams in the conference. To insure themselves them-selves a tie for spcond in the learrue, they must win both. Weber will be the host team (Continued on page five) College Basketball (Continued from first page) in the tourney. Mesa has cinched a place, and B. A. C. and Dixie will likely make up the foursome. While Dixie plays Westminster Friday night, B. A. C. will tangle with Weber. The southern teams will trade opponents on Saturday. Carbon will travel to Mesa Friday night. |
