Anderson With Patton's Army "Finding is having," at least with part of the items that military units take over enroute.to their goal. That is how Cpl. Franklin Anderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Anderson of Pintura has found it. He is with the 4th Armored division of Gen. Patton's Third Army, which has the distinction of being the second complete U. S. armored division in history to receive the Presidential Citation. The other group so honored was the 101st Airborne division. A truck driver of his division, Cpl. Anderson writes: "We have been moving so fast lately and have captured - trainload after trainload of general equipment. We found one carload of radios, so I have a nice set here in my truck. It is certainly nice to hear all the news and programs." Good band music, and other band programs from the states satisfying some of the hunger of recent months. They remind him of when he was home and drowz-ed drowz-ed off on his cot at night listening to good music. On April 16 he wrote of being ambushed by 30 Krauts, shooting bazookas at two of the trucks and machine-gunning some of the boys. Stopping his truck to avoid a bomb pit was all that saved his life. The Krouts were made to pay heavily and when the. Yanks reached the town, they took all the arms and kodaks from the enemy. He hopes to bring his kodak home with him. |
