Show ii 11 MEMORIAL DAY PROCLAMATION fl; Whereas, Memorial Day is a time set apart for PJ for the expression of the Nation's gratitude to its fallen ' sons, of affection and appreciation for their memory. But t, as the years pass the public concept expands to include 3 an increasing number of others who have served their country's good until at last all dedicated, generous and ,Ji unselfish lives may be admitted to the roster of those oommemoratively honored, and 3i Whereas, Memorial Day signifies something more than mere remembrance of the martyred dead. It should be an occasion of rededication for the living. The spirit of Lincoln's Gettysburg address prompts the annual commemoration, com-memoration, vitalizes the rites and ceremonies which constitute con-stitute the sacred aspects of its program, gives meaning ffl! and solemn importance to the words men say and hear '7 Decorating the graves of fallen soldiers and sailors merely 1 symbolizes the pledge of their compatriots the Promise that the ideals for which they sacrificed their lives shall J1 not perish from the earth."
