Show Virgin City Is Second Town In County To Reach War Bond Quota Mary Miller Kay Leads Field In County-War County-War Bond Queen Race Virgin is the second town in Washington county to go over the top in the Seventh War Loan Drive, having raised their Quota by Tuesday, May 22. Leeds topped the list, overselling their $5750 quota, to give their 1-10 population popula-tion better than $39.00 per capita. Thus far, towns in the east end of the county have announced no bond queen contestants, although it is understood that the war loan committee members are on the job in putting the drive over in their area. Santa Clara added a queen contestant this week, Mrs. Helen Sharpies Hafen, wife of Pfc. Elvin Hafen, who is overseas, is their nominee. This brings the queen competitors to a full half dozen. Count of ballots at noon today, (Thursday I shows Mary Miller Ray of Washington, leading with 471 votes. Others in the lineup are Betty Jo Morris, 449; Helen Brooks. 432; Vivian C. Frost. 414; Deloris Sullivan, 332, and Helen S. Hafen, 167. |
