Show Dixie High Leads District As First Half Ends Rest of League Schedule Looks Hard; Cedar And Hurricane Still Strong Having completed the first half of the season undefeated, Coach Lee Hafen's Dixie basketeers go into the home stretch tonight as they meet the Parowan Rams at Parowan. This game was originally origin-ally scheduled for Saturday night of this week, but the change was made at the request of the Rams. Rams Much Improved Now The Flyers won from the Rams 40-12 here in the opening game of the season, but the team is now greatly strengthened and will put up a hard fight on their own floor. The team has recently put up stiff opposition to both Kanab and Hurricane. Dixie breezed through a win at' Enterprise Saturday night of last week, after taking a hotly-contested affair at the local gym Friday against a much-improved Hurricane five. Coach Hafen used all his men at Enterprise and, won 47-37. The Typhoons got the jump at Dixie and took an early lead, which the Flyers canceled by the end of the first quarter 6-4. Up to the last two minutes the game was nip and tuck, with the two teams alternately taking the lead. The Flyers put on a rally in the waning moments of the game to come out on top 31-22. Valley had no luck last Friday at Cedar . and lost 36-21. Their game at Parowan the following night is not reported. Hurricane won a three-poir victory on their home floorfrom Kanab Saturday night. Dixie-Cedar Top Teams The race now apparently rests between Dixie and Cedar City, unless one of these teams flop or other teams show unexpected strength. However, any team in the division is strong enough to cause anything to happen. Cedar is just 1 games behind Dixie, with four wins and one loss. Hurricane plays at Valley Friday Fri-day and Parowan at Cedar. Valley Val-ley goes to Kanab Saturday. Dixie has two more games on the road after tonight before returning re-turning for three games at home. She goes to Hurricane on Feb. 11 and to Cedar on Feb. 18. Kanab, Enterprise and Valley then come to Dixie in that order. |
