Show Purple Heart Medal Sent Mrs. Katie Auguson For Her Son S. Sgt. Jones The Purple Heart, medal of gal-lentry gal-lentry in military sei-vice was awarded posthumously this week by mail to Mrs. Katie Auguson in behalf of her son, St.Sgt. Erban L. Jones, who lost his life in action over Germany, Feb. 16 of this year. The letter and statement state-ment of the ward follow: THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA To all who shall see these Presents, Pres-ents, Greeting: This is to certify that the Pres ident of the United States of America, pursuant to authority vested in him by Congress has awarded the Purple Heart. Established Es-tablished by General George Washington Wash-ington at Newourgh, New York, August 7, 1782, to St.Sgt. Erban L. Jones, A. S. No. 39675344 for Military Merit and for Wounds Received In Action Resulting in His Death February 16, 1943. Given Under My Hand In the City of Washington this 19th day of June, 1943. Henry L. Stimson, Secretary of War. The medal was accompanied by a letter from Secretary Stimson expressing sympathy for the bereaved be-reaved mother for the loss of her son, who served in the air corps. He says in part: "It is sent as a tangible expression of the country's coun-try's gratitude for his gallantry and devotion. "It is sent to you, as well, with my deepest personal sympathy for your bereavement. The loss of a loved one is beyond man's repairing, re-pairing, and the medal is of slight value; not so, the message it carries. We are all comrades in arms in this battle for our country, and those who have gone are not, - and never will be, forgotten bj . those of us who remain.
