Show American Legion and Auxiliary Announce Plans for 4fh Celebration Many Special Request Numbers Sung At Community Sing Sunday Special numbers for last Sunday evening's Community Sing in-iluded in-iluded "America, the Beautiful", Mrs. Mack Jackson soloist; girls' chorus, "Snowdrop", by the Center ward girls' chorus, including Marie Pickett, Jeannene Harris, Velda Leany, C 1 e o Sullivan, Beverly Moody, Esther Judd, Valrea Hafen, Ellen Raye Cottam, Olive Brooks and Ruth Marie Pickett; vocal solo, "Caroline", by Marion Bowler; Bow-ler; and Salute to the Flag was led by Robert Nelson, a South ward Scout. Mrs. E. Penn Smith sang, "In the Gloaming", by request. re-quest. Next Sunday's program will include in-clude music by the Martial band and other numbers suited to Indepedence Inde-pedence Day. There will be several sev-eral request numbers. In the absence ab-sence of Mrs. Pace, Marion Bowler will direct next Sunday's sing, with Paul Thompson as the accompanist. Children's Sporis Program To Be Held At 11: Beauty Contest At Night As Charles L. Walker wrote on occasion of an early celebration, "This Year the Fourth Conies on the Fifth", at least that is the date set for the Independence Day celebration which is in charge of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. The day's celebration will begin with a sunrise salulc followed by a flag-raising ceremony. cere-mony. At 10 a. m., there will be a rousing meeting in the Wads-worth Wads-worth theatre with Maurine Whipple Whip-ple as speaker of the day. There will also be music and other numbers. num-bers. At 11 a. m., sports will be held for the children on the lawns north of the Woodward high school building. From 7 to 9 p. m., there will be a bathing beauty contest at the Municipal pool with awards to be given in four different dif-ferent groups. Group (a) will include in-clude children up to age five; (b) ages 6 to 11; (c) ages 12 to 15; (d) age 15 and up. The second event will include swimming contests followed by fun swim for all interested. During Dur-ing the day there will be concessions conces-sions of various types and every effort will be made to provide a day of fun and entertainment. . . . |
