Show NEWS of the COUNTY SEAT Mr. and Mrs. Robert Worthen returned late Monday from a trip to northern points, accompanied by Mrs. Wort hen's mother, Mrs Nelson Pcarce, and her grandson, Duane Bleak, son of Mrs. Helen Bleak. Mrs. Pearce and Duane remained in Beaver, visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Ashworth, while the others went on to Richfield, Rich-field, Salt Lake City and Bountiful, Bounti-ful, visiting in the latter place with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bunting Bunt-ing and family. Alice Ashworth returned with them from Beaver to visit for two weeks. Mrs. Ada Cannon's summer piano students have organized a piano club and meet each week for music and a social hour at the homes of various members. A diversion was made last Thursday Thurs-day evening when the group assembled as-sembled at the municipal pool for a swim, from 7 to 8 p.m., after which they enjoyed a picnic lunch on the Temple lawns. Mrs. Agnes F. Woolley of Salt Lake City, and her son, D. Park Woolley of Trona, Calif., who has been visiting her, arrived last Saturday Sat-urday to visit St. George relatives. rela-tives. D. Park went on to Trona the same evening, Mrs. Woolley remaining to visit her sister, Mrs. Tina Macfarlane. Mrs. Ivan Davies and small son returned to Kanarra on Tuesday morning after spending the week end with her mother, Mrs. Ros-ena Ros-ena Blake. Heber C. Cottam left last Friday Fri-day for Springville, where he will visit with his son-in-law and daughter, Dr. and Mrs. G. B. Orton, in Provo with another daughter, Jean Cottam, and in Salt Lake City with his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Cottam and other relatives. 'zr Guest over last week of Miss Edith Crosby at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Miles, was her friend, Craig Way-man Way-man of Provo, who is home on furlough from R. O. T. C. school in Boulder City, Colo. Mr. Wayman and his parents resided in St. George several years ago, his father having employment here. Mrs. A. D. Wallis and daughters, daugh-ters, Donna Rae and Cleone, and Mrs. James Lawrence and Mrs. Fred Riding left Tuesday for Las Vegas to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Fergus Wallis, whose daughter, Barbara is in the hospital suffering suffer-ing with a broken leg and other injuries in a recent car. accident. Woodruff Cannon left Tuesday for Bridgeport, Calif., expecting to be absent for two or three months on a contract job. ' 'if 'i? 'A Mrs. H. C. Barton and three-year-old daughter, Mary, arrived last week to make an extended visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. W. McAllister. Her husband, 3c Petty Officer and bombardier in the U. S. Naval air corps left recently for overseas duty, and Mrs. Barton plans to remain here until his return. 'k 'i? Mr. and Mrs. Anson B. Call and family left last Friday for Provo and Salt Lake City on business and to. visit relatives. " Mr. and Mrs. Anton Madsen and small daughter are spending the week here with Mrs. Madsen's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Cannon. E. Penn Smith arrived Friday from Salt Lake City to spend a week. Mrs. Smith and children, who have been here for three weeks will return with them. Mrs. Jennie B. Nelson left Wednesday Wed-nesday for Los Angeles after visiting vis-iting in St. George over the week end She is enroute home from Salt Lake City, where she has been for an extended time with her son, James, who is recovering from a broken left leg, received in a bus accident. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Crosby and three sons arrived recently from Reno to visit their mother, Mrs. Lena Crosby and other relatives. Mr Crosby went on last week to Washington, D. C, where he has accepted government employment. Mrs. Crosby and the boys, who will also visit relatives in Pan-guitch Pan-guitch while here, will join him in early August. Mrs. Walter C. Pace and daughter daugh-ter Jane, left Monday for Salt Lake City from which point Jane will take the train for San Francisco Fran-cisco Mrs. Pace will remain for a week to visit her sisters Mrs. Leo McAllister and Mrs. D. M. Snow. Mrs James Whittikind, the former Amanda Sorensen who underwent surgery m Cedar City recently, is here visiting her mother. Mrs. Willard Sorensen whUe recuperating. Her husband will join her later. The O.T.T.F. Four-H club met Tuesday at the home of their leader, Mrs. Lothair Mangum. The seven members are taking their third year of home sewing and are now on their "best dress" project. This is their tenth meeting meet-ing this year. Gerald Seegmiller arrived last Friday from the Canadian border, where he has been employed at sheep shearing, having returned three weeks before the shearing was completed due to the illness of his mother, Mrs. Ida Seegmiller, who died Sunday afternoon. Here to attend the funeral services serv-ices of Mrs. Henrietta Ostrander Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Arnold and daughter, Alicia, of Salt Lake City; Dr. and Mrs. Paul S. Arnold and son, Edgar, of Annaheim, Calif.; grandchildren of the deceased, Samuel Francis of Santa Ana, Calif.; Mrs. Carrie Cummings and Miss Elaine Lor-entzun, Lor-entzun, both of Annaheim. Mrs. Pearl P. Turnbeaugh of Burbank, Calif., and Mrs. Florence Flor-ence Turnbeaugh of San Diego, are guests since last Thursday of Mrs. Ellen Perkins. The women were formerly from this section. Mrs. George H. Seegmiller and daughter, Teddy Sue, left Wednesday Wed-nesday for Long Beach, Calif., where they will visit with Miss Ruby Seegmiller. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hardy received re-ceived word recently of the birth of a daughter June 15 to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vance in Southgate, Calif. Mrs. Andrew Schmutz left last Sunday evening for San Francisco, where she will be a guest of her son, Dr. Melvin Schmutz for several sev-eral weeks while receiving medical treatment. Mrs. Milton Burgess and daughter daugh-ter of Central were visiting in St. George Wednesday. Larry Reeves Jr., left Tuesday evening for Reno, Nev., where he will spend the summer with friends. Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Howard Judd, accompanied by his mother. Mrs. Louise Judd. and her grandson. Don Judd of Pay-son, Pay-son, and Mrs. Julia Graff, motored to Salt Lake City over the week end. where Mr. Judd attended the conference of Chevrolet dealers, while the others visited. Mrs. Judd and Don remained in Pay-son, Pay-son, the others returning Monday and bringing with them the Misses Joyce and Dorothy Ryan, to visit for two weeks. |
