Show Ceremonies Mark Laying Of D.U.P. Cornerstone Articles Placed In Corner Stone To Commemorate Events Leading I'p To Building Brief but expressive ceremonies at 4:30 p.m. Sunday marked the laying of the cornerstone of the Oldum Memorial building, a gift of Dixie's benefactress. Mrs. Hor-tense Hor-tense McQuarrie Odium to the D.U.P. An extensive program haci been prepared, but due to a downpour down-pour of rain throughout the day, the event was necessarily cut short. However, in spite of the weather, there was a gratifying; attendance at the services, including includ-ing representatives from the Board of Commissioners of Washington Wash-ington county, from the board of City Commissioners, the Stake Presidency, the bishopric of the three local wards, Capt. Hazel B. Bradshaw and other officers of the county D.U.P., officers and. members of the three local D.U.P-chapters, D.U.P-chapters, members of local civic and business organizations, and the building contractors. Pres. Hazel B. Bradshaw was in charge of the service. Program Presented The group sang the first verse of "Oh, Ye Mountains High". A prayer was given by Counselor V. W. McArthur of St. George Stake-Deposits Stake-Deposits of significant items and historical data were made in the metal box provided as follows: Minutes of meeting of county commissioners, wherein the site for the Memorial building was--. conveyed to the D.U.P. by deed and resolution, and a list of (Continued on page five) ID.U.P. Woodbury and I Evan Cottam. the custodian of R'-lics D.U.P. Mrs. Josephine , Brooks Pace, and Robert Worthen. ! who laid the cornerstone, assist-ied assist-ied by W. W. McArthur. Bp. Riding and placed in the cornerstone by President Bradshaw. Pervading the entire services was a sentiment senti-ment of deep appreciation to Mrs. Odium, descendant of the sturdy pioneer lines of Robert and Mary Ann Carr Gardner, and Hector and Agnes Gray McQuarrie, whose generous bequest has made tha edifice possible, and of Mrs. Josephine Jose-phine B. Pace, through whose solicitation the gift was received. |
