Show VOICE OF THE PEOPLE BY BOYD DENNETT People look upon the School Bus Disaster with great sorrow for those immediately affected by it. This is as it should be. It does seem strange however that we have such a horror for these calamities ca-lamities on the one hand and at the same time fight for an economic system of profit taking which is the direct cause of this and all similar calamities. It is a calamity. To call it an accident would be to blaspheme good sense and justice. jus-tice. The roadway was there before the railroad ever thought of coming com-ing through. Had the people been interested in their own welfare the railroad company would have been compelled to build an underpass. But not so in America. The people peo-ple must suffer any injustice the corporations wish to impose upon them and they do it under the "great battle cry of individualism and private initiative", also that a guarantee of profit on an investment invest-ment must be maintained, even though the stock is watered to the extent of several hundred per cent. Will the railroad company be compelled to build an underpass to prevent a similiar catastrophe? Will other dangerous crossings now be eliminated? No! Unless the taxpayers of the state or nation na-tion do it. The private corporation must not be put to such an expense ex-pense nor hampered in any way in its taking of booty from the people. |
