Show Brooks Reviews History Of Parcel Post Service "Few people realize that the parcel par-cel post service in the United States is a mere 25 years old, having hav-ing come into existence at about the time that the World War began. Prior to this no parcel post went through the mails." states William Brooks, St. George postmaster. In commenting on this fact Mr. Brooks asks, "Do we fully realize just what effect the inaugeration of this service has had upon the country in which we live and the people therein?" He points out that "it has certainly been an important im-portant factor in welding this great country closer together". Today, with 25 years of parcel post service behind this country, the revenue from parcel post amounts to 18 per cent of the gross postal receipts which in 1937 amounted to $728,000,000. Two and a quarter million parcels are now handled each day by the postal sen-ice; the combined totals of insured and C.O.D. mail exceeds ex-ceeds 100.000.000 shipments a year. "T h e public", declares Mr. Brooks, "should make greater use of all of our postal facilities, especially the parcel post system. Send your parcel post packages by insured mail for safetly, air mail and special delivery for speed; make use of the C.O.D. system when you desire to make a collection col-lection on parcels sent out. "This year we celebrate the silver anniversary of the establishment establish-ment of parcel post. We ask your participation in making this celebration cele-bration a success through continued continu-ed patronage." |
