Show Conference Well Attended By All Wards Conference Opened Sat. Night With Aaronic And Melchizidek Priesthood Taking Charge Apostle Reed Smoot of the council of Twelve, representing the general authority of the church and Harold B. Lee, director direc-tor of the L.D.S. church security program were official visitors at the St. George stake quarterly conference held here Saturday and Sunday. Splendid representation from all wards of the stake is reported. re-ported. The opening sessions of this conference con-ference were held on Saturday night with the stake presidency taking charge of the joint Aaronic and Melchizidek priesthood meeting meet-ing in the south ward chapel. More than 400 active priesthood workers attended this session at which Pres. W. O. Bentley presided. Following preliminary singing, prayer and the address of welcome, wel-come, the groups separated for departmental de-partmental work where annual reports re-ports from officers, talks on quorum responsibilities and accomplishments, ac-complishments, and general testimony testi-mony bearing were included in the program. During this period the stake re- j lief society board with Zora S. Jarvis, first counselor, in charge, conducted a meeting in the basement base-ment of the Tabernacle which was also well attended with all wards represented. The main theme of this session was the relief society work in connection with the church security program. Miss Irene Cox reported the nature of church security work in the Canadian mission mis-sion field and Maurice J. Miles of the stake high council conducted conduct-ed a dictaphone presentation of a correct and successful church security board meeting. This was followed by a round table discussion discus-sion of local problems. The church security group met at the south ward chapel at 8:30 a.m. Sunday at which Apostle Smoot and Director Lee made special addresses on this program and reports of stake activities wore made by Harold S. Snow, stake director; W. O. Bent ley, president; Juanita Brooks, relief society president and Grover Shakespeare, work director. General Assembly A general assembly was hold in the stake recreation hall at 10 a.m. attended by approximately 1OO0 persons, mostly adults, the children chil-dren assembling at the same hour for special Sunday school services in the south ward chapel. The program for the children included an address by Apostle Rood Smoot. Orval Hafen of the stake presidency presi-dency presented the names of the general and slake authorities for sustaining. A unanimous vole was reported. Edward R. Froi Sr., former bishop of S.'mla Clara ward, gave an interesting report of Ihe present pre-sent method being followed in thai ward for securing a regular and complete report of Ihe district teaching. John H. Sehmutz, in charge of I ho Melchi.idok priesthood projects pro-jects of Ihe church security program, pro-gram, expressed pleasure in this work outlining briefly the aims of this department in overcoming un-emplovmenl un-emplovmenl . Ballard Hafen of Santa Clara ward outlined the responsibility and work of Ihe Aaronio priest hood quorums and expressed laith in their ultimate achievements. Barr W.
