Show "Stephen Foster" Play To Be Featured ' Tonite At Dixie College "Stephen Foster", a romantical comedy drama by Earl Hobson Smith, will culminate the second day's activities of the Dixie Fine Arts Festival. This play, which envisions the struggle of one of America's greatest song writers against many odds, financial and romantic, and shows his great contribution con-tribution to the folk lore of America, will be produced under the direction of B. Glen Smith tonight in the college autditorium. The strength of the drama will be beautified by music from the pen of the real Stephen Foster. The singing club will be directed by Prof. Jos. W. McAllister. Costumes Cos-tumes of the period, obtained from the Hilliam costume company of Salt Lake City and from local sources, will enhance the dramatic situation. Miss Buggert, of the physical education department, has assisted with the dancing, which adds atmosphere to the play. Stephen Foster is played by Laurel Abbott, a graduate of the Virgin Valley high school Mr. Abbott Ab-bott is a junior at the college, and was very popular in dramatics while he was in high school. Stephen's Ste-phen's rival is played by Allan Ruesch, who starred in "Fly Away Home". The father and mother of Stephen are characterized by Joe Norton and Mary Lou Wells, respectively, re-spectively, well known in college dramatics. Other principals are William Foster Jr., Rex McAllister; Ann Eliza, Throssa Beckstrand; Rev. Edward Y. Buchanan. Jack Ron-Ichor; Ron-Ichor; E. P. Christy, Wilden Tweed Twe-ed ie; Dr. McDowell, Earl Ilafen; and Oliva. Viola Leant t. Miss Afton Peters is assisting with the prompting and makeup. A select college chorus, with Elizabeth Brinkerhoff as pianist and Kenneth Ken-neth Kenworthy as banjoist, will participate as the singing club. Stanley Mccham and Arnold Cannon Can-non arc stage managers. Prof. Earl J. Bleak and his orchestra will furnish preliminary' music, and will play between the scenes. The drama will bo repeated on Saturday night. |
