This, for the information of every man, woman and child should be read and remembered and lived. It was and is intended for you and your children. It is intended for every citizen of the county and of the state, since it not only is a city but a state law, and means every man, woman wom-an and child, and means you individually. in-dividually. Sec. 209. Fireworks. Any per- wise dispose of any firecrackers, torpedos or other fireworks within the corporate limits of the city, shall be guilty of an offense and upon conviction thereof shall be liable to a fine in any sum not exceeding thirty dollars, or to be imprisoned in the city jail not to exceed fifteen days, or both such fine and imprisonment. Since this is a law, we wish to call your attention to it today that you may realize the importance import-ance of the offense and avoid the trouble of fine or imprisonment by not living within the law. The enforcement of this law becomes necessary for the protection and safety of every citizen. For the 4th of July no merchant mer-chant in our city sold fireworks but other merchants in our county sold them and they were purchased pur-chased and brought here to our boys and girls, either sold or in some way distributed to them. Still others ordered them over freight lines or in various ways obtained them until there were more firecrackers fire-crackers than ever before. Those who continue in this practice are subject to both fine and Im prisonment. Both' county and city officers intend that this law shall "be enforced, we are asking here that each and all co-operate in this, and you alone are responsible res-ponsible if you do not live up to it. Many people are willing to take a risk with firecrackers for the small amount of pleasure they give, not stopping to think of the danger they subject themselves them-selves to, In our own county on the Fourth, one boy's hand was badly torn and burned and it was thought for some time he might loose it, this by a firecracker. fire-cracker. Another burned a girl's dress almost off her, endangering endanger-ing her life and costing the boy a large sum of money. In the country there were several serious accidents, one boy loosing 'his power of speech for life. What a price to pay for a little pleasure. pleas-ure. I ask you, is it worth (he risk.? ' , , . X As officers, we stand ifor One Hundred percent law enforcement for the protection of every citizen citi-zen and we ask you to give us your full co-operation in this law. Signed: i Mayor Albert E. Miller, City Council, and Sheriff Antone Prince. |
