Show BUNKERVILLE FLOOD D AIM AGE ESTIMATED MORE THAN $25,000 BUNKERVILLE, Nevada, July 13. The town of Bunkerville is today clearing up wreckage left when three cloudbursts swept down almost devastating it on July 10. The damage to crops and personal effects are estimated iu excess of $25,000. The first cloudburst struck at 11a.m. and the other two followed fol-lowed before 4 p. m, when every street in town was running fronl two to four and five feet deep. In some of the houses, the water ran through from the front door and out at the back. Turn-off "basins" constructed by CCC workers proved inadequate inade-quate to stem the force of the water and all gave way to it. Two CCC barracks were so badly battered that the foundations gave way and they sagged in a heap of broken lumber. The entire water supply was almost completely destroyed and ranchers from the vicinity went to Las Vegas to appeal to federal fed-eral aid. Every person in town was out working to save supplies and personal effects. Alfalfa fields ready to cut were covered with mud and debris. Gardens were destroyed. Tomatoes and cantaloupes canta-loupes ready for market were covered with silt and debris. |
