Show STANDARD OIL COMPANY OF CALIFORNIA ! CAMPAIGN NEWS Candidates in The News' subscription-scholarship jg campaign are more than ever learning the wisdom of i the old saying that "neither is the race to the swift nor H the battle to the strong, but to him that endureth to I the end." This statment is not intended to imply that celerity I of foot and physical power are even to be considered as i requisites in The News competition, but that presever- I ence ad finem will undoubtedly be a strong factor in I determining the ultimate winners of the main awards S in the scholarship campaign now swinging toward its 1 final stages. H This fact is becoming increasingly evident as the drive B progresses and the 18 candidates seeking the three college or 9 beauty school scholarships and three business college scholar- H ships buckle down in earnest to add to their point totals lor the grand prizes and at the same time to win a special cash SJ prize, offered during the period ending July 17. However, those who fail to win a scholarship of special prize will not have H worked invain, inasmuch as daily pay checks and cash bonuses 8 are rewarding every participant. K The competition is extremely close in both divisions, and 1 it is as difficult to predict the winner as it is easy to admire 9 the ambition and principles of the young men and women who fl n are selling The News in an attempt to gain further training and R knowledge. In re- R j turn for the points that enhance their chances of furthering u I their education they are offering something that is becoming H i more and more both a family pleasure and a household i necessity in the homes of Southern Utah, a publication brim- I ming with interesting and complete news, solid editorial inter- I s pretation of the events of the day and shopping advice in the form of advertisements of leading merchants, whose newspaper I display of their goods and services is assurance that residents of 1 M this district may do business with them on a basis encompassing 9 quality, economy and convenience. R 3 The success of candidates is significant, because, aside from w jg standing as a tribute to the personality and industriousness or II S these young people, the tabulation indicates to what extent M m The News is building up from an already strong circulation H j foundation in the farming communities and in the prosperous n B neighboring towns. This foundation was well laid as a result of 9 IS The News' service and is being strengthened in pace with the a constant expansion of the paper's news coverage. 1 To All Candidates H The time to launch your greatest drive is NOW. The 1 livliest part of the campaign is now at hand and while all the 1 leaders are on the same footing at the same time those who 9 want to and will are offered a grand opportunity to corral the 1 winning votes during this period. More general and concerted 1 action should take place these next few days than at any time I since the campaign began and each of the candidates is more I determined than ever to be declared the winner of the best I scholarship to be given. S All in all. there's a merry race on and the work done this 1 period will, in all liklihood determine who the big winners are 1 to be at the close of the campaign.
