Show Beautification Program Progressing The beautifying of public grounds and individual home yards in St. George and Washington County has gone forward for-ward rapidly during the last few years. While there is a great deal more that needs to be done, one has only to think back a few years to see the great strides that have been made. The Church Authorities, County Commissioners and City Officials are deserving of praise for the leadership that they have taken in this regard. We recall that there was very little grass around the court house when we first came to St. George. At the present time the grounds around this building are not the final answer in beautification, beautifi-cation, but they are certainly a great improvement. The church has instituted a beautification program at the Temple and other church buildings that has been a big factor in making people beautification minded. Also the state has a program that is being carried on that is of material assistance. One of the latest moves has been the removal of the fence around the Tabernacle and Library building. This Is true throughout the city with many individuals taking down old delapidated fences. This has been made possible by the City Council taking the stand that there is no place lor loose stock on the streets of the city. Now if we can get a few of these old barns that are not being used, taken down, another big step will have been made. Also with the securing of sidewalks property owners can make a big improvement in the appearance of their homes by the planting plant-ing of lawn between the sidewalk and curb or irrigation ditch. |
