Show State Road Commission Asks For Bids On Snow Canyon Road 1 V Contract Calls For Building Of Road To Diamond Valley Bids for the completion of the Snow Canyon road to Diamond Valley are being called for by the State Road commission. The bid calls for construction on 8.73 miles and will prepare this section of the road for surfacing at a later date. This information was released this week by J. A. Owens, public information director for the commission. The construction begins at the end of the 2Vs mile stretch already al-ready completed just north of St. George and connects with the Diamond Valley road. The new route eliminates the crooked highway that has been in use for many years and the estimated cost is $45,000. Bids will be opened open-ed by the Road Commission at the Capitol on June 26 at 2 p.m. With construction getting underway under-way on this road, Washington County citizens will see the culmination cul-mination of years of work and effort. During the past five years individuals, civic and club organizations organi-zations and the entire section have kept up a continuous fight to secure this road. While this construction will not complete the needed work (road must be built on the forest) it will be a big step in the elimination of this dangerous and hard-to-travel section sec-tion of highway between the northern end of the county and Nevada points. This road will open the scenic and recreational area on Pine Valley Mountain making it possible pos-sible for the people of this section sec-tion to have summer cabins there which they will be able to reach in an hour's drive. It will also be a big help to the farmers of the section served by this road and will help to bring about a better cooperation between the entire district. |
