Show NEW ZHi PARK STAKE CHEATED AT CONFERENCE Eight Wards Taken from St. George Organization to Form New Unit in Eastern East-ern Part of the County Zion Park stake comprising Springdale, Rockville, Hurricane North and South, Toquerville, La I Verkin, Virgin and the Short Creek I and Cane Beds branch wards, was I created - at. the quarterly conference confer-ence held here last Saturday and Sunday. This district has a church population of approximately 2500. Twelve wards remain in the St. George stake having a population of approximately 4300. The stake presidency of the newly created stake are: Claud Hirschi of Hurricane, James Judd of La Verkin and Russell B. Swen-! Swen-! son, seminary teacher at Hurri-j Hurri-j cane. Eight high council members as follows were named and sustained: sustain-ed: James Jepson, David Hirschi, Morris WJilson, Jr., John E. Sanders, San-ders, Alvin Englestead, Harvey Jackson, John R. Crawford and Mb-rvin Terry, These eight coun-cilmen, coun-cilmen, associated with the stake presidency, will select other officers offi-cers and perfect the auxiliary organizations or-ganizations of the stake. Brief remarks were made at the general session Sunday afternoon after-noon by the new stake presidency and by Joseph K. Nicholes and Wm. O. Bentley of the stake presidency. pres-idency. Elder D. O. McKay reviewed re-viewed the history of the St. George stake, mentioning previous divisions when the Nevada wards were separated. The proposition of dividing the stake was given unanimous approval ap-proval at the general meeting and was favored by practically everyone, every-one, in the priesthood section Saturday. Sat-urday. The line dividing the stakes extends north and south at the east boundary of the Leeds ward, placing all east in the newly new-ly organized stake. The line in Arizona Ari-zona diverts so as to include Mt. Trumbull in the original stake. |
