Jensen, state superintend of public instruction, Tuesday Th is the first apportionment of the sch funds this year under the consututio"01 al provision that the state shall as near as possible to $25 per rj'' for each child of school age in th' state, for the support of conin C schools. The second apportionmew will be made early in the spring. Apportionment of this money made on the basis of the school po ulation of the state as shown by the school census taken in October, 1957 That census revealed 14,3,811 chfldren of school age in the state, so that the present distribution would amount to $18.38 per child. This would leave a balance of $6.62 per child to be distributed dis-tributed at the next apportionment in order to make up the full $25. in tlle first apportionment of school funds in 1927 some $15.13 per child was distributed, distrib-uted, on a basis of 143,054 children The sum apportioned at that time was $2,164,407.02. The money apportioned is derived from general property taxes collected under the state school levy and front interest on the investment of land grant funds. The first items furnished furnish-ed $2,432,589.45 toward this first distribution., distri-bution., and the second item provided $212,116.85, making a total of $2,644,. 706.30 in the state school funds for distribution. The apportionment 0 the $2,643,246.18 from that amount left $1460.12 in the funds. According to the report Washington County was apportioned $43,542,22. |
