Show INVITATION MEET AT BUNKERVILLE GOOD; 4 ATOM Four high schools competed in a track and field meet at Bun-kerville Bun-kerville on Saturday, April 14, with Las Vegas taking first place with 5 6'4 points, Virgin was second with 3914, Dixie third with 3 6, and Overton fourth with 5. Ten records were broken and one tied. Vegas, Dixie, and Virgin each received a beautiful trophy, while all first place men received individual medals. Weight, H. Leavitt, Harris); D.; L. V. 3:559. For Virgin, Harries, J. Waite, H. Leavitt, W. Hardy, D. Waite, and Floyd Waite were outstanding. outstand-ing. J. Waite was especially fine in the hurdles; Harris came through fine in the half mile and H. Leavitt was outstanding in the field events. Those staring for Dixie were Lloyd Gubler, high point man of the meet and winner of the gold spike; he placed first in the 100 and 2 20 yard dashes and ran the anchor lap in the mile relay race. Wade would have won the spike but was beaten on the last jump in the broad jump. He won the high jump, took second in the broad jump, was third in the discuss and ran in the winning half mile relayteam. Clive Bunker was the Burprise of the meet winning the quarter file in 57 flat on a slow track. McGregorson made a fine showing in the half mile. It was the second time that he had run this distance as he has been training for the quarter mile. ,.Dick Lund, captain of the Dixie I team, showed up particularly ' well in the preliminaries, winning j his heat in the 100 yard dash in 10 and 25 seconds. A NUMBER OP MEETS A number of fine track meets are in store for followers of this sport. On Friday, at 2:30 p.m. On the school campus there will be a dual meet between the B. A. C. high school and Dixie high. Beginning with the high jump, broad jump and pole vault which will be held at the school because be-cause of the lack of facilities at the park. All races, and other events will be held at the park. On Wednesday the 25th, Dixie will go to Cedar for a return meet. This Thursday four schools will meet to pick the boys who will represent this district at the Jr. Penthalon to be held here on Saturday, April 21, at 2:00 p.m. The schools and their coaches that will compete are: Overton Jr. high, 'Lorraine Ivins, Director; Bunkerville, Reed Blake, Director; Mesquite, Earl-ine Earl-ine Tobbler, Director; Dixie, Reed Wilson and Lee Hafen, Directors; Hurricane, Elmer Graff, Director; Orderville, Reed Wittwer, Director; Direc-tor; Kanab, Mr. Kerby, Director; Parowan, Orlin Ward, Director. |
