Show FIRE BURNS HOME IN MESQUITE; CHILD SERIOUSLY INJURED Johnny Bowers' home in Me:;-quite, Me:;-quite, Nev., was completely burned burn-ed when a lighted match- was thrown in the wood box by their three year old daughter, on Wednesday Wed-nesday night about 5 p.m. Mr .Bowers is working at Cedar Ce-dar in a sawmill and the wife had gone out into the chicken yard to collect the eggs which she sent back into the house by the little girl. It was at that time that the child threw the match into the wood' box. The invalid child was in the bedroom which is In back of the room in which the lire started. start-ed. In the house was also a baby. When Mrs. Bowers discovered dis-covered the fire she screamed and ran into the building. Victor Knight saw the fire and followed her in. They were able to get the baby which was in the front but could not get through to the invalid child because of the flames. They then ran around the side of the house and Mr. Knight reached in and pulled out a burning quilt which covered the child. Mrs. Bowers told him the child was under the quilt so he tried again and was able to secure the child whose garments gar-ments were on fire, and who was so badly burned that it may prove fatal. A doctor and his wife, tourists tour-ists from California, were passing, pass-ing, and seeing the fire they stopped and the doctor offered his services. He found it necessary neces-sary to give the chiljrri hypodermic hypoder-mic and then dressed her burns. The child was later brought to St. George where Doctor McGregor McGre-gor treated her and the mother j and family then were taken on , to Cedar City by E. A. Walker, ; a neighbor who assisted them in their trouble. t According to Mr. Walker, the home and all their clothing and goods were completely destroyed. It is also his belief that the" in- : valid child is to badly burned to live. This opinion was formed ! after talking to the doctors. i |
