Show PLAN SURVEY OE KAHBAB DEER A survey of the Kaibab national forest for. the purpose of recommending recom-mending to the state game commission com-mission the bag limits and length of season for hunting deer in the forest next fall, Is to be made jointly by the state game department, depart-ment, ' the forest service and the United States' biological survey, starting at once, it has been announced an-nounced by the Arizona state game warden. " The survey will e- made by the warden and Dr. Homer L. Shantz, president of the University of Ari-aona.' Ari-aona.' and Prof. William G. Mc-Ginnie, Mc-Ginnie, range ecologist of the University Uni-versity of Arizona, representing the state, and Walter E. Mann, superintendent super-intendent of Kaibab forest, and several experts from the biological survey in Washington, representing the government. The party w-ill assemble in Kanab Ka-nab the latter part of this week and will begin the survey from there. It is made for the purpose of determining the number of deer in the forest, feed conditions, and the condition of the herd, so that recommendations may be submitted submit-ted to both the game department and the forest service as to the number of deer to- be allowed as a bag limit and the length of the hunting season. Last year the hunters were allowed al-lowed to kill two deer, of which one could be a buck, and the season ran from October 1 to December De-cember 15. The survey will require re-quire more than a week. |
