Show INVESTIGATE SURFACE WELL POSSIBILITIES Director Wm. Peterson Makes Survey Sur-vey of Valley Water Sources Director Wfcn. Peterson of the Utah State agricultural college and State County Agent Leader W. W. Owens arrived here last Thursday from Logan to look over the possibilities possi-bilities in this section for irrigation from surface wells. They visited several of the springs in the vicinity vi-cinity of St. George and Washington Wash-ington and studied the Santa Clara creek from the Shem damsite at the Shivwits reservation to the St. George fields. County VAgent Walter Wal-ter F. Smith, Orval Hafen, Wallis B. Mathis, John Hafen, Jacob Frei and Harmon Gubler accompanied them on the visits during Friday. Fri-day. Director Feterson was greatly impressed with the findings and recommended to the committee from Santa Clara that water can be found along the Santa Clara creek . in sufficient abundance for irrigation purposes. On Saturday Mr. smith accompanied accom-panied Director Peterson and Mir. Owens to Enterprise where they assisted A. P. Winsor in locating a well. From Enterprise they visited visit-ed Beryl and Cedar Bottoms taking tak-ing the records and studying the wells in these places. Dr. Peterson expressed his views on the local water situation before be-fore the water committee of the city council Friday night, urging that the development of additional water be undertaken and that we conserve as much as possible our present supply. Director Peterson and W. W. Owens, assistant director, are making mak-ing a tour of the state inspecting underground water projects. The purpose of the trip is a survey to determine the correlation between be-tween rainfall in the watersheds and the annual underground recharge. re-charge. In counties that have surface wells, both artesian ar-tesian and pump, a close record over the activities of the . wells is kept and sent in from time to time.
