Show NEWS NOTES FROM WOODWARD SCHOOL Miss Linda Larson is out of school this week due to an attack at-tack of mumps. The class room attendance is being noticeably lowered every liy during the last week due to the local epidemic of mumps. The' principal and teachers will greatly appreciate the cooperation of parents par-ents in handling this situation by keeping close observation over their children and not allowing any to attend who show any evidences of mumps. Only in this way can the epidemic be checked. Last week the two fourth grades tied in the spelling contest. This week end another match will be held in an effort settle the tie. The children have taken intense interest in these spelling matches and it is hoped that much permanent per-manent good -will result. This week the Woodward seventh sev-enth grade is giving special attention atten-tion to patriotic study in all possible pos-sible class work. Patriotic readings and songs are being stressed and class contest work in original prose and poetry themes is being conducted. Every grade will hold a special Lincoln program Friday afternoon. Every class room is being made bright with Valentine and patriotic patri-otic decorations, and huge Valentine Valen-tine boxes, which will be opened Friday afternoon, are being crammed cram-med with clever hand made and "store" valentines. An interesting series of baseball and kick ball games for girls of the sixth, seventh and eighth grades is being held this week. Series for the boys are being carried car-ried over a two week period and will be reported later. Preliminary games in the girls' series have already been played with-the following scores: Baseball Points Merlene Fawcett group 70 Ada Hafen group 46 Maxine Hafen group 41 Noma Cox group 40 Kick Ball Points Irma Larson group 45 Remona Dalton group 42 Wanda Romney group 12 Mary Jarvis group 9 All of the teams in each division di-vision will, meet for the finals Thursday and Friday afternoons. Winners and consolation games will be played. |
