Show Oil BOWS TO iHURRICANE IN TIGHT JONTEST With Score Tied at 15 at End of Regular Playing Period East Enders Nose Out Two Point Victory The Hurricane high school achieved ach-ieved its highest ambition last Friday night to win- a basketball game from Dixie. And win it they did in a thrilling contest-for the first time in the history of competition com-petition between the two schools. To say that the Hurricanites were jubilant is putting it mUdly. Strong men who had waited and hoped throughout these years for the time when the scales would balance bal-ance in their favor, were overcome over-come with their emotions when their cherished desire was fulfilled. ful-filled. The game was an uphill struggle strug-gle for Hurricane. Going into the final period with the score 15 to 8 against them, they unloosed an attack, led by Stratton, that scored scor-ed three field goals in a few minutes. A foul pitch tied the score as the cow bell rang for the end of the game. Pandemonium broke loose among the Hurricane fans. They scented victory, and as far as Dixie was concerned she might as well have packed her bags and gone home then. Coming back for the extra period minus the services of Brooks, star guard, who was put out on fouls, Dixie was at a great disadvantage and Hurricane immediately broke through to score a field goal and another point was added by a foul. The best Dixie could do was to gather in one point. The final score was 18 to 16. Dixie took an early lead when Brooks put the ball through the hoop within the first few seconds of play. He immediately added another point on a foul pitch. The first quarter-ended 5 to 4 for Dixie. Hurricane led ' for a few minutes in the second period and then Dixie took the ' lead, the half ending 10 to 7 for Dixie. The blue and white gradually gradu-ally increased their margin during dur-ing the third period. Apparently all was well for Dixie, and visions of the state tournament floated lazily through the minds of her ardent supporters during . the dull periods of the contest. With a victory vic-tory over Hurricane on her own floor a tight grip on league leadership lead-ership would be secured. The third period ended 13 to 8 for Dixie and two points were added early in the final quarter. It was then the dreamers were rudely awakened awak-ened when Stratton broke through for three baskets tying the score. Dixie had lost her punch and fell easy prey in the extra period. HURRICANE. G.
