Four miles of w road has been accepted by state of Arizona and is now own to travel. This short stretch iminates the almost impassable iW around the Big Bend sec-.03 sec-.03 which, before the recent ,"orm, caused considerable delay Ci trouble for travelers. The section sec-tion completed is known as schedule sched-ule 1, and extends from a point , short distance this side of the Big Bend to the new $40,000 steel bridge across Sand Hollow. This bridge is now in use although some I) fort remains to be done on both 'roaches. This structure has hen accepted by federal and state er.gineers. Nevada has completed IB mile of highway from Mes-uit Mes-uit to the line. The new road cut of Mesquite will lead northeast from Lundy's service station instead of making a turn to the east through the Mesquite lane. The entire stretch across the flat from the Utah line to within a mile fr of Uttlefleld is now graded and ready for surfacing. Teams are employed in a cut where the road U leaves the bench and drops down to the Beaver Dam wash. A new pile bridge across the wash is completed and the approach on this side is being rip-rapped. The new highway follows the old route at this point, the station of Jos. Reber having been moved as it was directly in the path of the new construction. The route then swings to the flat west of Little-field, Little-field, reaching the higher elevation eleva-tion through a cut on an easy ' grade. ! Paralleling the old road across I this flat the highway swings to j the north before reaching the Big Bend curves, and enters the canyon can-yon at its head dropping to the i lower level again over a six per cent dugway. I Through a series of deep cuts and i large fills the road reaches higher bench again and continues on to ! Sand Hollow spanned by the steel bridge. From this point the highway high-way swings to the north of the old. route and follows a straight line to within a short distance of Mesquite. The old road across the strip is in better condition than it has been for many years, and no trouble trou-ble whatever is experienced by motorists mo-torists using this route. According to information received re-ceived at Mesquite, Nevada has appropriated funds to oil the Arrowhead Ar-rowhead Trail from the Arizona line to the California border, and this work, it is said, will be done this year. |
