Show yj WHY GO TO COLLEGE? The Dixie Junior College Catalogue for 1934-35 is now off the press. During the printing of this book, the question, "Why Go To College," often came to m(e. We often hear it discussed with many arguements both for and against a college course. Ass to the propriety of it, a great deal depends on the circumstances that a young-person young-person may be in that, it is impossible to give an answer that will do in all cases. That every young person should go to college is just as nonsensical as that no one should go at all. Real genius is independit of all conditions, and hence some of the world's greatest men never entered college. In the past, however, it was easier for those lacking a college education to come to the front than at present. The college cannot change the nature of a person, nor is it an open sesame to success. If a young man or woman goes into college an impracticable, they will more than likely come out the same. A college develops but does not create. The question of going to college or not can only be solved by knowing the boy or girl, the college and the circumstances incident to the case. Individuality must be consulted. Many persons will not take a college education educa-tion any more than some course stones will not take a polish. To attempt to educate them may only bring disappointment dis-appointment both to them and their parents. On the other hand there is nothing that will add more to the power and usefulness of a good mind than an education. In college col-lege the mind is taught to work and the foundation may be laid for all future growth and development. A college education of the right kind and in the care of the right person per-son is capital invested and well invested. It is not simply a money mvestent but also of the mind and heart, and will bring pleasure and enjoyment to all the subsequent life. The question of finance is usually one of the paramount para-mount ones to be faced. It is in this respect that the Dixie Junior College enters the field. Eecause of its stragic location and the fact that the people of Dixie have never had the money to spend on an expensive education, but have always been desireous of securing one, the cost per student has been kept low. In addition to a low financial cost the Dixie Junior College offers a staff of teachers that will compare favorably with any. Hence, we sav, go to college col-lege if at all possible, and investigate the Dixie" Junior College. Col-lege. You might find it possible to go to college where you had thought it impossible. rt |
