Show RAINS TOO LATE TO INCREASE FEED Snow and rain during October slightly improved Utah's winter ranges, according to the monthly livestock live-stock and range report released on Tuesday. Although the precipitation came too late to induce much or any growth in the low supply of feed, it added materially to the water supply and brightens the outlook towards keeping the stock in good condition. More hay and feed grains than usual have been purchased by stockmen stock-men to supplement the poor winter range. Corn and cottonseed cakes have been shipped into the state, which with a record home production produc-tion of barley this season, should carry the c&tcle over the winter in fair shape, the . report indicates. Since summer feed was generally sufficient to keep the animals healthy, as yet there has been no serious deterioration of livestock on account of range conditions. No marked changes have occurred in the market outlook for cattle or sheep in the past month, but some slight lessening of the demand for cattle is reported, according to the report. Reports from several comities indicate in-dicate the purchase of more feed than usual, close culling of old ewes, poor feed on the winter ranges with a slight shortage of hay, and the outlook rather dark if the state is hit by a hard winter. |
