Show MT. C ARM EL ROAD TO BE READY JUNE 1ST Construction work will be finished on the state road between the border bor-der of Zion National Park and lit. Carmel by the first of next June, it was announced Tuesday by H. S. Kerr, chief engineer of the state road department. Completion of the projects undertaken under-taken by the park service through the United States bureau of public roads may be delayed beyond that irintp but. all work will probably be finished in time to bear a par: of the season's tourist traffic. Ti'.e Nevada Contracting Company has completed the grading on the eight-mile section first let by the bureau of public roads. The bore of the tunnel section consisting of about 5600 feet of tunnel 22 feet wide by 17 feet high, is also nearly finished. The contractor has just started on he third section within the park, this consisting of about three miles of heavy grading from the tunnel bore to the end of the park where, it will join the state projects. Nearly three-fourths of the linear lin-ear distance of the grading has been done on the 16-mile road construction construc-tion undertaken by the state department. de-partment. Good progress is being made on the remainder by the contractors. con-tractors. The state road commission will open bids and probably let contracts for the graveling of this road early in December, Mr. Kerr said. |
