The accident claimed two lives and injured three other persons in the vehicles. Two die in truck accident Two Vernal residents were killed in a Saturday collision betweeen two semi-tractor trailers. Three other people were injured in the accident that occurred at 12:06 p.m. on U-44, 14 miles north of Vernal at Windy Point. Killed were Peggy Jo Jenkins, 2395 N. Vernal Ave., Vernal and her daughter, Randi Danielle, 11 months. They were passengers in a truck driven by Allen Jenkins, 28. Jenkins was taken to Ashley Valley Medical Center in fair to poor condition and was listed in the same condition Tuesday. Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Olsen said Jenkins was northbound when his truck was struck broadside by a southbound truck that lost its brakes on the hill, left the road and swerved back into the traffic lanes. Both trucks burst into flames, Olsen said. The driver of the southbound truck, Joseph B. Bonacci, 31, Columbis Falls, Mont., was taken to Ashley Valley Medical Center and was in fair to poor condition Tuesday. A passenger in his truck, Jon Esser, 13, was in good condition con-dition at the medical center. Later Saturday at about 10: 15 p.m. a 1983 GMC truck driven by Delbert Dobson, 27, Evanston, Wyo., jackknif-ed jackknif-ed 13.9 miles north of U-44. The driver suffered only minor injuries. Including the two accidents Saturday, Satur-day, there have been 28 accidents reported on U-44 this year. |
