Show f U u Wr j VERNAL VIPERS, Mike Sonnie, Made Miller, Leah Halver-son, Halver-son, Cammy Burke, Justin Hodgkinson, Nicki Allred (not in picture) Jesse Hodgkinson, Annie Bertoch and Terry Hodgkinson competed in state swimming finals. 4 Vipers place at state final Utah's best swimmers gathered at the Orem Recreation Center last week to compete in the Utah State Championships. All swimmers were required to have B times or better to swim in the event. Qualifying swimmers from the Vernal Ver-nal Viper Team were Mike Sonnie, Macie Miller, Leah Halverson, Cammy Cam-my Burke, Justin Hodgkinson, Nickie Allred, Jesse Hodgkinson, Annie Bertoch Ber-toch and Jerry Hodgkinson. The Vernal team competed well for being the youngest team at the championships, cham-pionships, said Susie Hodgkinson, team supporter. Cammie Burke raced in 8 events, Jesse Hodgkinson competed in 6 events, Nickie Allred swam in 6 events, Leah Halverson competed in 4 events, Justin Hodgkinson raced in 3 events, Jerry Hodgkinson swam in 2 events, Annie Bertoch and Macie Miller swam in one event. The meet began Wednesday afternoon after-noon and continued through Saturday. At the end of Saturday's competition the Vernal team had garnered 7 medals. Annie Bertoch placed 5th in the state in 100 meter back stroke, Jerry Hodgkinson placed 5th in the state in the 100 meter breast stroke, Jesse Hodgkinson placed 4th in the 50 meter free style, and 5th in the 100 meter breast storke, Nickie Allred placed in three events, 5th in 50 meter butterfly, 7th in 100 meter free style and 5th in the 200 meter individual medley. The Vernal Vipers are now planning their own meet to be in September. Swimmers from teams in Utah, Colorado Col-orado and Wyoming have shown a desire to attend the Vernal meet. |
